ASTM F355-A and F1936 compliant. Independent of any installer or manufacturer. NIST-traceable calibration. SafePlay Pro is the only contractor in Utah providing independent G-Max impact testing for synthetic turf and grass fields.
SafePlay Pro is the only contractor in Utah that provides independent G-Max impact testing. Not Renner Sports, not Ace Courts, not any other competitor. Every school, municipality, and facility with synthetic turf needs this test, and we’re the only local option.
Every synthetic turf field hardens over time as infill compacts and fibers degrade. A harder field means more energy transfers into the athlete’s body on every impact: more sprains, more fractures, and a measurable increase in concussions. G-Max testing proves whether your field is safe.
The company that installed your field should not be the company that tests it. SafePlay Pro has no financial interest in your field passing or failing. We report what the data shows. That independence is exactly what insurance companies and athletic directors need.
A 20-lb (±0.11 lb) cylindrical missile with a flat metal impacting surface is dropped onto your field from a controlled height. The accelerometer inside measures the peak deceleration on impact. That number is the G-Max score. Higher scores mean harder surfaces. Scores must stay below 200g at every test location. Our equipment carries current NIST-traceable calibration certificates.
We test at 10 locations across the field per ASTM F1936. At each location, the missile is dropped 3 times. The second and third drops are averaged for the official score. Testing follows ASTM F355-Procedure A for equipment design and ASTM Specification F1936 for testing procedures, location selection, and quantity of test points. The entire test takes 2–3 hours for a standard field.
You receive a detailed report with G-Max scores at all 10 test locations, a field map showing exactly where each test was conducted, pass/fail determination, and recommendations. Reports are formatted for insurance compliance, warranty documentation, and school board presentation. Results delivered within 48 hours.
Call or submit a request. We’ll confirm a testing date that works for your facility schedule. Most tests can be scheduled within 1–2 weeks. No field prep required on your end.
Our technician arrives with calibrated equipment, walks the field, selects 10 test locations per ASTM F1936, and conducts the full drop test protocol. The entire process takes 2–3 hours. Your field is fully usable immediately after.
Test data is analyzed and compiled into a professional report with field maps, scores by location, pass/fail determination, and maintenance recommendations. Formatted for insurance, school boards, and warranty compliance.
Your complete G-Max report is delivered within 48 hours of the test. If any location exceeds the 200g threshold, we’ll flag it immediately on-site and discuss remediation options, including maintenance, infill replenishment, or resurfacing.
Student athlete safety is non-negotiable. Regular G-Max testing demonstrates due diligence and protects against liability. Recommended: 1–2 tests per year.
Higher-level competition means higher impact forces. NCAA and conference standards increasingly reference surface safety testing.
Public facilities carry public liability. Documented G-Max testing is the strongest evidence of responsible facility management.
Member safety and insurance requirements. Many insurance providers now ask for G-Max documentation as part of coverage renewal.
Every NFL field is G-Max tested before every game on every field. If the NFL considers G-Max testing essential for professional athletes, your facility should too.
G-Max measures the peak deceleration (in g-forces) when a standardized 20-lb missile impacts your field surface. Think of it as a hardness test for your field. A score below 200g means the surface is absorbing enough impact energy to be considered safe. Above 200g, the field fails ASTM safety standards and poses an elevated injury risk, particularly for concussions, fractures, and joint injuries.
Independent G-Max testing for a standard athletic field typically costs $1,500–$3,000 depending on field size and location. Compare that to the cost of a single serious athletic injury, or the liability exposure of a field that fails safety standards without anyone knowing. Most facilities recover the testing cost many times over in reduced insurance premiums and liability protection.
For high school fields: 1–2 times per year. For heavy-use facilities (daily practice plus games): twice per year minimum. The NFL tests before every game. Fields harden gradually, so annual testing catches dangerous changes before they cause injuries. New fields should be baselined within the first year of installation.
If the company that installed your field also tests it, there’s an inherent conflict of interest: they have a financial incentive for the field to pass. Independent testing means the results reflect reality, not a business relationship. Insurance companies, school boards, and athletic directors increasingly require independent verification for exactly this reason. SafePlay Pro has no installation contracts that create testing conflicts.
No hard sell. No mystery pricing. Brian will discuss your facility, schedule the test, and deliver results within 48 hours.
